چکیده

The study of the effects bilingualism on brain structure has gained significant traction in last decade, naturally following pioneering work by Ellen Bialystok and others cognition. However, despite general interest enthusiasm about related evidence, field bilingualism-induced structural plasticity remains young relatively unexplored. At same time, this been largely limited to healthy populations. This chapter revisits reviews evidence neuroplasticity contemporary theories that provide explanations available with a particular focus ageing patient bilingual brain. Specifically, full account reported bilinguals is provided, followed findings from diseases cause progressive decline, such as mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s Huntington’s diseases, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis. concludes some suggestions for future directions field.

The use of two or more languages is common in most of the world. Yet, until recently, bilingualism was considered to be a complicating factor for language processing, cognition, and the brain. The past 20 years have witnessed an upsurge of research on bilingualism to examine language acquisition and processing, their cognitive and neural bases, and the consequences that bilingualism holds for c...

Chapter 14 Event Structure and the Japanese Indirect Passive

There is a consensus among researchers working on causation and causative constructions that the causal relation encoded in the meaning of a verb is decomposed into two events e1 and e2, such that e2 is temporally and causally dependent on e1 (Shibatani 1976; Dowty 1979; Pustejovsky 1991, among many others). Within the generative lexicon theory (Pustejovsky 1995), the causative verb break is as...

Chapter 14

Knowledge of the sequence of morphogenetic changes in the development of sporangia and spores in the watermolds was first arrived at by traditional -and sometimes rather imprecise -cytological methodology (Chapter 12) or by simple observational means (Chapters 7, 8). In either case, the resulting information was limited in scope, but it is now possible by analyzing elements of the subcellular s...

Chapter 14 Summary and Conclusions

Most algorithms used in ocean colour remote sensing attempt to derive, directly, the concentrations of water constituents, mainly phytoplankton chlorophyll concentration. In this report, however, we present and discuss algorithms which have been developed to derive inherent optical properties (IOPs) from waterleaving radiance, in a one-step or multi-step process. The IOPs are then decomposed in...

The U.S. beef cattle industry has been a major consumer of wet and dried corn distiller’s byproducts for decades. As a result, there has been considerable research conducted to evaluate the feeding value of corn distiller’s by-products to cattle. Most of the research is related to feeding distiller’s grains to finishing beef cattle. Several excellent research summaries and feeding recommendatio...
